Science Olympiad

I started Science Olympiad in 8th grade and fell in love with the competition. I participated in it all the way through high school, competing in over 10 different events in total.

Science Olympiad taught me the importance of failure over time. In 8th grade, I was the only participant on my team to not win a single award during regionals and state competition. Instead of letting it bring me down, I continued to persevere in competition, and am currently serving my second term as Science Olympiad President and led my teams to 5th place in regionals.

8th grade Crimebusters

An event I participated in every year was Forensics. In 8th grade, my partner and I were unable to place in this event, but after years of hardwork, we both were able to work together and place 2nd out of 40 teams. This event not only taught me determination, but also sparked my interest in forensic science as a potential future career.

Leadership in Science Olympiad
Prior to my leadership in Science Olympiad, our school's team consisted of only 12 out of the 18 required members. We were unable to place as a team during competitions.

Science Olympiad 2017-2018

During my term as president in 2019-2020, I implemented new guidelines that made the club more organized, as a whole. These included:
-- An officer team consisting of Captains for each event category
-- Uniform t-shirts that made the team appear more bonded and organized
-- Bi-monthly meetings with attendance to track progress of each student and event.
After the implementations, we were able to fill our first team and create a full JV team with seven alternate competitors. Both our Varsity and Junior Varsity team placed 5th in their respective divisions, which was unprecedented for our school.
As I lead Science Olympiad for the 2020-2021 year, I plan to increase females in the STEM fields and connect with middle schools to inspire them about the love for science.
